SpaceTeam® holding Developers Taught Monitoring Systems to Work with Millimeter Accuracy

For the first time in Russia, design engineers from NII PT (part of the SpaceTeam® holding) accomplished a comprehensive integration of geo-engineering technology, telecommunications and GLONASS / GPS satellite navigation with mathematical modeling of the state of controlled facilities.

The Scientific Research Institute of Applied Telematics (part of the innovative SpaceTeam® holding) has developed a unique solution for the navigation industry - complex engineering sites remote monitoring system. The solution is presented in the framework of the 4th International specialized exhibition-forum Road, which runs 14-17 October in the «Crocus Expo» exhibition center. For the first time in Russia, design engineers from NII PT (part of the SpaceTeam® holding) accomplished a comprehensive integration of geo-engineering technology, telecommunications and GLONASS / GPS satellite navigation, with mathematical modeling of the state of controlled facilities.

The system automatically, and in real-time, monitors displacement / disturbance in transportation infrastructure and landslide sites (post-processed up to 4-5 millimeters), allowing not only to respond quickly to the occurrence of abnormal and emergency situations, but also to predict the occurrence of defects in road infrastructure in a timely manner.

The system is implemented and successfully tested on a section of the M27 Djubga-Sochi federal highway near the Khosta overpass (section 194-196 km) – the most dangerous and complex in terms of strength of structural elements. The project was implemented in the interests of the Federal Road Agency.

Specialized equipment allows the monitoring of various parameters which negatively affect facilities operations. For example, conducing a three-dimensional measurement of deformation parameters, displacement of slopes, vibration, deflection of structural elements, soil displacement, underground water flow, and landslide blockades at landslide facilities. In case of a deviation from permissible parameters, the system automatically generates an alert and transmits the data to the control center, which in turn, can quickly react to the abnormal situation and take necessary urgent measures. The system can also further control various processes. For example, a meteorological station connected to the system, reports on the state of the environment, and surveillance cameras provide situational control at the facilities.

According to the system developers, operational control of the situation, forecasting and analysis, timely action will not only prevent accidents and increase operational safety of complex road structures, but also significantly reduce exploitation cost of transportation infrastructure.

According to the results of the testing carried out by the Institute for Systems Analysis of the Russian Academy of Science, implementation of a system for control of deformations and displacements provides road-exploitation organizations and services a 15% savings by reducing repair costs.

«Implementation of a deformations and displacements system - that is an innovative project, which has no analogues in Russia. In Sochi was created a unique testing ground for processing of software and hardware, mathematical models and a methodical system for automated high-precision monitoring of road facilities. The developed technological solutions can be replicated and used to build regional and automated departmental systems of various complexity and structures in the interests of various departments in order to ensure security», - noted the NII TP general director Vitaly Poltoratsky.

4th International specialized exhibition-forum Road is taking place at the exhibition center «Crocus Expo» from 14 to 17 October 2013 with the support of the Ministry of Transportation of the RF, Federal Highway Agency «Rosavtodor», the Russian Asociation of regional organs for exploitation of roads "RADOR," Non-profit partnership of road design organizations «RODOS», Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University (MADI).

Annually attracting the best experts of the road industry, «ROAD» 2013 introduced 200 participant companies from 28 Russian regions and 15 foreign countries (Belarus, Ukraine, Finland, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, China, Taiwan, Germany, Korea, Greece, India, Austria, United States, Switzerland and Canada).
